Today was a big travel day. After awakening very early (5:45), we ate a final breakfast at Istanbul’s Hotel Tria, home of the most incredible breakfast spread/desert bar that we have encountered so far in our travels. We then boarded a shuttle bus that took us to the bus station in Istanbul. Our bus was scheduled to leave at 8:00am and arrive at the port at 5:00pm, so we had a long ride ahead. Though some of us were expecting the worst, the Turkish bus system turned out to be a very classy establishment. In addition to having a satellite TV connection (even though only Turkish soaps were on), the bus had extremely comfortable seats, and, most importantly a snack and beverage cart. Most of us caught up on sleep/our Iliad reading during the ride. Around 5 pm, we arrived at the port, where we got ready to catch a boat to the island of Lesbos. After CJ had a high-speed chase to retrieve his camera, we were ready to go. The ferry took about an hour, and then we were back in Greece. We all miss Istanbul, but it was nice to have a gyro again after 4 days, because some of us were going into withdrawal. Tomorrow we check out the archaeological museum and head to the petrified forest!
